The night of January 3, 2022, it is reported that two bodyguards attached to a senior politician in Kericho arrested two males. They accused the duo of stealing beehives and tortured them before dropping them along the road near Brooke Estate. One of the victims, Leonard Kipyegon, died from his injuries, while the survivor sustained serious injuries. A police officer who spoke to Missing Voices under condition of anonymity for fear of intimidation confided that the said bodyguards a Kenya Police officer and a prison warder are attached to the office of the current Kericho County governor.
