Francis Mburia

The Star newspaper reported 19-year old Francis Mburia was tortured by police officers from Pangani police station on November 27. He had allegedly stolen a mobile phone valued at Ksh 25000. A witness said around 5 police officers dragged him from his house, hit his head with a hammer, pulled his private parts with pliers and beat him. Mburia was charged with robbery with violence and the officers attempted to transfer him to Industrial Area remand prison. The prison refused to admit him as a result of his condition and requested the officers take him to the hospital. Mburia was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital on Wednesday – 5 days after being brutalized by the officers – he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening. Mburia was a father of two. His family is demanding the police officers responsible for his death are held account for their actions.
