It is reported, Eric Ochanda was arrested on June 23, 2021 for flouting curfew regulations and was fined 8,000 KES for a traffic offence. Allegedly, he was unable to raise the money for the fine and was awaiting transfer to a prison facility. Police claim that Ochanda fell sick at the station and was confirmed dead on arrival at Marani sub county. Residents claimed foul play, as Ochanda was not sick prior to being arrested. Furthermore, the post-mortem indicated that Ochanda died from severe head trauma as a result of being hit with a blunt object.
