Missing Voices sources claim that Eric Atito was arrested by two police officers from Holo Police Post in Kisumu, on October 7, over rape allegations. The officers were accompanied by Upper Kadongo sublocation assistant Chief. Atito called a family member and requested them to inform his parents that he needed to be taken to hospital after being brutalised by the officers and was detained at Holo post. When his father went to the post in the morning on October 8, police informed him that Atito had already been taken to JOOTRH. He followed up with the hospital and was told Atito died and was in the mortuary. Missing Voices could not establish if the deceased had been admitted to the hospital, or if he died in police custody.
