Media reported that Darphine Morara, a standard six pupil at Marani Primary School, was shot dead on June 26 by police from Rioma police station during a protest by locals over the death of Eric Ochanda, a Bodaboda rider who died in police custody on June 26. The police shot at protesters in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Morara was walking home when she was hit by a stray bullet. She died at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
